1 1/2 hours at the dinner table...

Braden has gotten into a new thing at dinner. He has decided if he is not over the top happy with dinner the food that he will eat what he really likes and then he says he is done or he doesn't like the other food items. Right or wrong, we have decided that he has to try foods (more than a small bite) before he can say he doesn't like something and he must eat some (not all) of his food before he can leave the table. Tonight was the night that I relived my childhood. That night I probably sat at that wooden table for what felt like forever, with cold chop steak on my plate. Not allowed to leave the table until it was finished. Oh dear, I am my parents all over again! Tonight we had pot roast, potatoes, corn, and he had a banana. He finished all of his corn and a few bites of his banana. He declared that he was finished with dinner and ready to play. We went through the expectations of dinner for probably the 100th time tonight and told him he couldn't get up and play, watch a movie, or have any candy until he had his dinner. Then Nick put a pile of food that was his "had to eat pile before getting up." He sat there for about an hour not eating. By this time Nick, Blake, and I have eaten a piece of candy (yes in front of him- just pouring the salt!), started to "play" in the living while having an amazing time (more salt), and Nick and Blake are playing on the slide (turning the knife)! Notice Braden in the background of the picture-completely bored at the table while Blake is having a blast :) It took everything for Nick and I not to laugh this whole time at his attempt to get out of eating. FINALLY he finished his small pile of food and off to the slide he went. Life for him was good again. Now we will see if it made any impression on him tomorrow at dinner. Until then....
